Illness Policy:

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF HE/SHE IS SICK!

  1. Your child should stay home the next day if he/she is sick during the night.
  2. Your child should stay home if he/she had a poor night’s sleep. This might be the first sign of an impending illness.
  3. Your child must be fever free for 48 hours without medication before returning to school.
  4. If your child is showing signs of a possible impending illness (runny nose, sniffles, pink eye, scratchy throat, itchy eyes – even if there is no temperature – it would be to everyone’s benefit, including your child, that he/she stays home.)
  5. In case of a contagious disease, please notify the school at once. All parents will be notified by the school when a child in the group has a contagious disease. We will require a doctor’s note stating that your child is in good health before he/she will be readmitted.
  6. Please contact the school to report an absence.

Allergies Policy:

If your child has any food allergies, PLEASE BE SURE TO LET US KNOW! With any severe allergies, please contact us so that we can plan for a separate labeled container with your child’s name with snacks that you provide from home. You will be notified when the supply is running low.

We accept children who require EPI pen usage for extreme allergy situations. We will require the following information from Parent including:

  1. Parental /Authorized representative Permission to administer usage of EPI pen in case of emergency. (Permission slip is attached handbook. One copy will be kept in your child’s file and one copy will be kept in Emergency bag in your child’s classroom.)
  2. Written instructions for your child’s physician. (One copy will be kept in your child’s file and one copy will be kept in the Emergency bag in your child’s classroom)

Our staff is trained in CPR and First-Aid, which includes usage of EPI pen. We will store your child’s EPI pen in a central labeled container in the classroom for easy access by the designated staff person(s).

Parent(s) will be immediately informed through cell/home phone in case of need for usage. In the event that we are unable get through to parent we will call emergency numbers provided by parents.

Medications:

We will NOT administer any medications to children at school, including prescription and over the counter medications, without a signed consent from the parents.

If your child requires the administration of prescription medicine, we will only administer with signed consent from your primary care physician.

Emergency Procedures For Earthquakes and Fires:

As California is prone to earthquakes, we want to be sure that all of our students know what to do in case of an earthquake. Throughout the year we have Earthquake Drills and Fire Drills to practice our skills and procedures. At the first sign of an earthquake, the teacher will call the “DROP” command. All present must drop under a table and hold onto the legs of the table.

The teacher will assess the ability of the class to evacuate and will check for any possible injuries. If the teacher gives the “evacuation” direction, students will walk quietly and quickly out of the classroom with the teacher. Students will be evacuated to a central emergency assembly area (the large yard at our pick up area, if it is deemed safe!) and be supervised until a parent or authorized adult arrives to sign the student out.

In the event of a major earthquake or fire, all students will be kept at school until it is determined that they can be released safely to a parent or authorized adult. The school will utilize the services of Parent Volunteers as emergency volunteers in the event of a major earthquake. Anyone who is able to reach the school and is willing to help will be greatly appreciated.
